About Lumina Grove
What is a Microschool?
A microschool is a small, student-centered learning environment designed to support children in a more personalized and meaningful way than traditional schools. With fewer students and a flexible approach, microschools create space for deeper learning, stronger relationships and more joy in the learning process.
At Lumina Grove, we:
~ Serve children in kindergarten through second grade.
Microschools blend the best parts of homeschooling, traditional classrooms, and progressive education to create a safe inspiring space where children thrive.
~ Meet students at their academic levels.
~ Keep class sizes small to ensure every child is seen and supported.
~ Offer a hands-on, interest-driven curriculum that builds strong academic foundations.
About Me
Hi there! I'm Mrs. Murchison and I'm a Florida certified reading endorsed teacher with 12 years of experience working with children in both public and charter schools—including several years in Title 1 settings. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Child and Family Development and a Master's in Education. I truly believe in supporting the whole child—academically, emotionally, and socially.
My journey in education began as a paraprofessional, where I spent five years learning the heart of classroom life from the ground up. For the past seven years, I've had the joy of teaching Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades. Whether we're diving into a new book, solving math problems, or learning how to work together as a team, I love helping children grow into confident, curious learners.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in Expeditionary Learning, Love and Logic, and whole child development. I believe children thrive when they feel safe, respected, and inspired—so I build my classroom around strong relationships, meaningful learning experiences, and developmentally appropriate expectations that meet kids right where they are. Building a strong classroom community is at the heart of everything I do. When children feel connected—to their teacher and to one another—they're more willing to take risks, collaborate, and truly grow.
As a retired military wife and mom of two college-age children who grew up experiencing military life, I understand how important stability, compassion, and a sense of belonging are for young learners. I bring those values into my classroom every day, creating a space where every child feels seen, supported, and inspired.
